Eric L. Anderson, M.D. received his medical degree from the University of Iowa in 2000. Following medical school, he completed an internship in Family Medicine at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Florida and then went on to train at the Naval Aero-Medical Institute (NAMI). He graduated from NAMI in 2002 and was designated as a Naval Flight Surgeon. During his time as a Flight Surgeon, he trained in the Space Operations Medical Support Course, eventually taking part in providing medical support for the Space Shuttle Endeavour launch in 2002 (STS-113). He also served as a Flight Surgeon for numerous aviation squadrons, including VP-30 (Navy), the 125th Fighter Wing (Air National Guard), and HITRON (Coast Guard).
Dr. Anderson commenced his residency training in Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2006. While at Johns Hopkins, he served as the Chief Resident and trained psychiatric resident physicians, medical students, and nursing students in a wide variety of topics surrounding mental illness and health. He completed his residency in 2009 and is Board Eligible. His training at Hopkins has included CBT, psychodynamic therapy, family therapy, and medication management. In addition, he received training in ECT and TMS. Dr. Anderson maintains his affiliation with Hopkins, where he teaches medical and nursing students as well as residents in Psychiatry.
Dr. Anderson has a wide variety of clinical interests, including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), depression, bipolar disorder, mood disorders in pregnancy, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, substance abuse disorders, and neuropsychiatric illnesses (such as dementia). He is certified in TMS and is one of the few providers of this service in Annapolis. He has authored numerous research papers and a text chapter. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Maryland Psychiatric Society, and the American Association for Emergency Psychiatrists.
