Akira Otani, Ed.D., ABPH (Annapolis and Arnold offices) is a licensed
psychologist who has joined Spectrum Behavioral Health
after working as Senior Staff Psychologist at the
University of Maryland Counseling Center for 18 years.
Prior to that appointment, he served on the
graduate faculty in Counseling and Human Services,
Johns Hopkins University, where he still teaches
part-time psychological diagnosis and counseling
techniques.
His clinical interests include anxiety disorders, psychological trauma, and
behavioral health management. He is board certified by the American Board of
Psychological Hypnosis (ABPH) and is on the teaching faculty for the American
Society of Clinical Hypnosis. He is familiar with Eastern meditation techniques
and integrates, when appropriate, these techniques in his work according to each
client’s needs. Dr. Otani has extensive experience in career counseling and
coaching with adults as well.
Dr. Otani received his Master's degree and Doctor of Education (Ed.D) in
counseling psychology from West Virginia University.
He speaks Japanese fluently, practices yoga daily, and consults
with other professionals both in US and Japan. |
