 Spectrum Behavioral Health proudly announces the newest member of our team; Akira Otani, Ed.D., A.B.P.H. Dr. Otani joins Spectrum, having recently been with the Counseling Center at the University of Maryland, College Park. Having spent his childhood in Osaka, Japan, he is fluent in both the English and Japanese languages. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychological Hypnosis. We are very proud to introduce him as a qualified member to our outstanding team and excited to welcome him in both offices. He is available to accept new patients immediately.

Dr. Franco is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia. Dr. Franco received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the George Washington University. During her studies, she worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings including mental health centers, medical facilities, psychiatric hospitals, and forensic settings.

Dr. Franco completed her internship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry.

In addition to working with children, adolescents and adults with various clinical presentations, she specializes in behavioral medicine, multicultural psychology, and forensics. Dr. Franco enjoys doing individual, couple, and family psychotherapy as well as diagnostic evaluations of children, adolescents, and adults. She has extensive experience in working with trauma and abuse survivors, chronic illness, and various psychiatric conditions. She has training in dynamic therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, interpersonal therapy, brief psychotherapy, eastern philosophy, guided imagery, relaxation techniques, and crisis intervention.

Dr. Franco was a visiting assistant professor at the Catholic University of America and is now an assistant clinical faculty at the George Washington University. She has authored several journal articles and presented several scholarly articles and lectures. She is fluent in several languages including English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese.
